Electrolysis is a term used to describe the process of
hair removal that includes a blend of two methods: "Thermolysis" and
"Galvanic". These methods have stood the test of time since first
used by opthalmologist Doctor Charles E. Michel in 1875.
Thermolysis uses a high frequency alternating current or radio wave,
which, when it comes in contact with the normal body fluids in a hair
follicle, generates a low level heat that cauterizes and destroys the
hair. The Galvanic process converts body salts and fluids in the
hair follicle into a chemical that destroys the dermal papilla and
matrix, in the presence of direct current. The combination of
these methods combines the quickness of Thermolysis with the permanency
of Galvanic process.
